주로 설치와 영상, 텍스트로 작업하며, 이미지의 단일성과 확실성을 흔드는 다양한 보기의 방법들을 실험한다. 개인전 《감은 눈꺼풀의 뒷면에서》 (2025, 청주미술창작스튜디오, 청주), 《나머지와 남은 것들》 (2025, 프로젝트 스페이스 사루비아, 서울)를 비롯하여 다수의 개인전과 기획·단체전에 참여하였으며, 푸른지대창작샘터 6기(2026), 청주미술창작스튜디오 19기(2025), 대전테미예술창작센터 10기(2023) 입주 작가로 활동하였다.

우리가 이미지를 만들어내고 인식하는 과정 속에서 세계의 취약성을 발견한다. 이는 선명함과 확실함으로 나아가는 시각의 이면을 드러내는 것이기도 하다. 주로 맹점, 양안시차, 어긋난 초점, 역상, 반사와 같이, ‘본다’는 행위의 근본적인 역설과, 사진의 촬영·현상·인화 과정에서 나타나는 지연, 전도의 순간을 작업의 출발점으로 삼는다.

이미지는 눈앞에 생생하게 빛나지만, 동시에 빛의 조건 속에서만 성립하는 일시적 사건이다. 나는 그 사건 뒤에 남겨진 희미한 잔상, 흔적, 텅 빈 영역을 주시하는 것으로, 이미지의 외부를 드러낸다.

이를 위해 스크린의 구조와 물성을 변형하거나 투사의 조건을 조정하며, 고정되지 않는 초점, 빛의 잔상, 상반된 이미지의 중첩 등 단일한 해석을 허용하지 않는 이미지 상황을 만드는 스크리닝의 방법들을 주로 실험한다.

Kang jiyun primarily works with installation, video, and text, experimenting with various modes of viewing that unsettle the singularity and certainty of images. They have presented solo exhibitions including Behind Closed Eyelids (2025, Cheongju Art Studio, Cheongju) and Remnants and Remains (2025, Project Space Sarubia, Seoul), and have participated in numerous group and curated exhibitions. They were an artist-in-residence at Suwon Art Studio(2026), Cheongju Art Studio (2025) and Artist Residency TEMI (2023).

I explore the fragility of the world through the processes by which images are produced and perceived. In doing so, I reveal the underside of vision that strives toward clarity and certainty. As points of departure, I draw on the fundamental paradoxes of seeing—such as the blind spot, binocular disparity, misaligned focus, inversion, and reflection—as well as the moments of delay and reversal that occur in the processes of photographic capture, development, and printing.

An image appears vividly before the eyes, yet it is at the same time a transient event that exists only under the conditions of light. By attending to the faint afterimages, traces, and empty regions that remain in the wake of this event, I seek to reveal the exterior of the image.

To this end, I experiment with screening methods that produce image conditions resistant to singular interpretation—by altering the structure and materiality of the screen or adjusting the conditions of projection—such as unstable focus, lingering afterimages, and the superimposition of contradictory images.
