연약하고 불확실한 것들은 임시적이나마 거대한 공동의 상상으로 재편되며 힘을 갖는다. 지난 작업 < 목소리: 파도 >(2019), < 일부의 부분, 부분의 전체 >(2018)부터 이어지고 있는 소리 작업 < 한 숨과 긴 숨 >(2019)는 6명의 여성들이 함께 그려낸 소리풍경으로, 확신을 주지 않는 모호한 것들, 기꺼이 포착되지 않는 것들, 체계 속에 포함될 수 없었던 소리들을 겹쳐 ‘거대한 것’을 지어 보기 위한 연습이다. 아무 것도 없는 곳에서 언어화 되지 않은 소리를 내면서(이 소리들은 말이 아닌 호흡에 가깝다) 서로의 상상력을 쌓아 올려 손에 잡히진 않는, 그러나 거대한 무언가를 만들어 내는 일이 근사한 일처럼 느껴졌다.
이렇게 만들어진 사운드에 응답하는 형식으로 제작된 두 번째 영상은 감지할 수 없는 불확실성/위태로움이 무료함과 공존하는 풍경을 담았으며, 텍스트를 얹혀 완성되었다.
Albeit provisionally, the feeble, uncertain beings gain strength as they are reorganized into an enormous, collective imagination. “A Breath and a Very Long Breath (2019)” is a continuation of the previous sound works “Voices: Waves (2019)” and “Part of a Section, Entirety of a Part (2018).” In this work, six women collaborate to make a landscape of sounds by taking ambiguous things that cannot be relied upon, things that unyieldingly refuse to be identified, the sounds that are not accepted by the systems, and overlay them on top of each other. This task, in fact, is the practice to build ‘an enormous something.’ In complete nowhere, they were making unverbalized sounds (the sounds are more akin to breaths than words) and building each person’s imagination on top of each other to construct something intangible yet undoubtedly enormous. The task had a grandeur to it.
